Excerpts from my Upcoming "Get Back Up"

I have a manuscript called Get Back Up that I think will grip people's attention, as well as let them know that even if they were once victims, they don't have to stay victims. They can reach inside themselves and find the strength within them to overcome different types of trauma. Even if the trauma is just facing the ex of a newfound lover. Without further ado, here is an excerpt and blurb from the story After All and Savin' You, Savin' Me.

Note: Since the lead women in both the stories are named Summer, I'm thinking of changing the first name of the heroine in the first story. I'd be glad to take suggestions from potential readers!

Excerpt from After All:

Jason caressed her unusually warm cheek, and the way she was shivering, he started to think maybe she really was sick.

Summer’s lips parted, but her throat was dry and tight, so she couldn’t speak. Gary didn’t seem to notice how scared the poor girl was. Jason, stronger than Summer, brushed past her and into the house as Gary made his way across the street to his Jeep. Summer’s heart was thumping a mile a minute, and even faster than that when Jason closed and locked the door. Her ears were ringing, she felt dizzy and nauseous, and she couldn’t breathe. She felt Jason press his body behind her and he slowly ran his hands down her arms. They were alone now, a loud party was going on at his house, and other houses were too far away for her to scream. There was nothing she could do.

“So, finally, we meet.”

Summer’s throat tightened, her mouth went dry, and her stomach was in knots. Why did Gary trust Jason enough to leave him alone with her? What the hell? THIS was why she was so damn terrified of him. THIS was what she had been trying to avoid for three months. Oh, shit!

“I’ve been trying to get to you since you got here, three months ago. You never came to see me. Why is that?”

Tears streamed down her cheeks, her tongue felt like it was stuck to the roof of her dry mouth. She opened her mouth, and only a hoarse sob escaped.

“Kitty cat got your tongue, baby? That’s okay. We’ll fix that.”

Blurb:

Summer Brantley is the hottest new teen model/author of the 1990s. Even though she's the color of the finest mahogany, she's become the darling of hard rock artists. She even has a hard rock festival named after her! After a brutal attack from a neighbor of a host family she stays with to finish school, she feels broken. The parents of her attacker kept him out of prison and bought not only her silence but the silence of lots of witnesses who saw the attack through her opened window! Until she is finally able to tell her story to the world, she has to pretend she doesn't even know her assailant, a rising star on the hard rock scene. Even though the story was told by witnesses who weren't paid off, Summer can't confirm or deny the news. Can the new love in Summer's life help her find the strength to stand up to her past? Or, will she continue to be mentally imprisoned by the memory of what happened to her?

Excerpt from Savin' You, Savin' Me:

Donny saw the tape and clenched and unclenched his jaw at the sight of the guy who ruined his marriage dragging his ex like a ragdoll. They were divorced, but Donny didn’t tolerate a man mistreating a woman. The head of security gave us a copy of the surveillance tape, and we thanked him as we left and got back to the car. We paused as the stillness of the heat in the air made us cringe. He opened the door for me and I leaned over to unlock his side. We turned on the car for the a/c, sat in silence, got out my tablet, and plugged in the USB. We watched again, and from the view outside, we saw the alleged abductor getting into a brand new red S 650 Cabriolet.

When we saw that red luxury vehicle, every person in Vegas would know who it was. We were able to get a close-up of the license plate as it drove off. It said: “JB1-NORTH”. That man just can’t help flaunting who the hell he is. He asked me out once, and I turned him down. He told me all I had to do was be a trophy girlfriend, and show him some appreciation. I would also have to be what he called “a submissive”. When I got the gist of what he was saying, I told him to kiss my ass and walked away. Yeah, fuck that.

“Jeffrey North. That son of a bitch.”

I shook my head slowly.

“You know him?”

“Know him? I turned down the chance to be his submissive trophy girlfriend!”

Donny looked at me in shock.

 “That was you?”

“How’d you know about it?”

“Before she left, Hannah was gossiping to me about Jeffrey North trying desperately to get some black girl to go out with him. She said, ‘He probably deserves better. She’d only use him anyway.’”

“Yeah, and I’m having a house built in Northgate, so I’d need his money!”

“You’re having a house built out there?”

“Yeah, it’s almost done.”

“So, we’d have a way into the community where he lives.”

“Uh-huh.”

“Well, can we go?”

“Dude, you’re drivin’!”

Blurb:

Summer Adams is a famous writer living in Las Vegas. After visiting her best friend Stacey Glover's Private Investigation/Bounty Hunter-ish firm, she is handed a case to find her favorite drummer! After successfully getting the wayward drummer back in touch with his family, they are given another case ... to find his missing ex-wife! They try to juggle their growing love for each other with their confusing insecurities of how Donny may (or may not) feel about his ex-wife once she is found. Can they make it through the drama and the trauma this case brings upon them? Will the incidents that happen before, during, and after the case make them lose their faith in love?

The manuscript for this one is basically done, I'm just waiting on the "write" time to release it (corny, yes, I know). How many of you will be buying this book? How many of you will be reviewing it for me? How many of you have some ideas you'd like to see if I could put on the page? Comment, I'd be glad to hear from you!

Deuces!

Upcoming Projects

Hey, guys! Here are some of my upcoming projects. I'm working on manuscripts right now. I have to go through and do some editing and rewriting, and it's coming along. Not as quickly as I would like, but still... I'm trying to decide which road (publishing-wise) will be best for my brand of stories. I'm an erotica writer. I also have my toe dipped into a children's book (different pen name) and a book on pop culture and my experiences with it. There is also a biography in the works and a self-help-style thing that may just wind up being a blog. I don't feel I have enough material for it to be a book. If I decide to go with an agent, hopefully, there will be one who understands and shares my vision. When I write erotica and romance, I don't always keep just the woman's perspective. I try to show things from the man's point of view as well. I like to show what people are thinking, how they are feeling, and what they are going through. When you watch a m...

Do You Believe in Ghosts and Spirits?

Do You Believe in Ghosts and Spirits?   Do you believe in ghosts and spirits? I do. I'm about to tell you a few of my experiences. I only wish they weren't real, but alas... these things did happen to me, and I can never forget them.  At the age of nine, my mom and I were living with her boyfriend in his childhood home with his mother, brother, and sister. It was a pretty nice house in one of the older (and now roughest) parts of town on the west side called Ensley. I was home alone that particular day, and have no idea where the four grown-ups of the house were. I had no worries, as I sat alone in the back of the house watching television. It was sunny out, no winds, and nothing wrong with the power, yet the television went off on its own. I didn't try to explain it away. I simply ran from the back of the house through the room my mom and I slept in, out of the brother's room, straight through the dining room, and out the living room door. SCREAMING! I ran to the house...

So, It's Christmas Eve

Hey, y'all! So, it's Christmas Eve and I haven't posted in a bit. I decided to post a couple of Christmas poems here for you. One is the original version of A Visit from St. Nicholas . The other is a darker, goth version of the same poem. I love both and can't choose which one I love more. I think they're about even. Anyway, enjoy the poems, and have a very Merry Christmas! See ya next year!!! For those of us who don't mind a bit of tradition on Christmas Eve: “ The Night Before Christmas ” ‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled our brains for a long winter nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my b...
